Have a Little Talk with Jesus

1 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  

The psalmist wrote: Have a little talk with Jesus; tell Him all about your troubles; He’ll hear your faintest cry and He will answer by and by. You’ll feel a little prayer wheel turning and you’ll know a little fire is burning. Just a little talk with Jesus makes it right.

No matter what you’re going through, I encourage you to take it to Jesus. Take it to the throne. Have a little talk, have a long talk, with the Master. I promise you He’ll hear your faintest cry and He’ll answer by and by. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to have confidence in what you take to the Master that whatsoever you ask in His name AND according to His will, He will hear you and He will answer your prayer. He may not answer it in the manner or in the timeframe in which you desire, but He will answer. And one more thing, whatever you take to the Lord, take it with no doubt that God is able! I don’t care what it is, He is able. Sickness: He’s able! Disease: He’s able! Marital woes: He’s able! Wayward children: He’s able! Unsaved loved one: He’s able! Fired: He’s able! Eviction: He’s able! Discontent: He’s able! Stressed: He’s able! Confused: He’s able! Sad/Depressed: He’s able! Remember, He is able to do EXCEEDING! ABUNDANTLY! Above ALL you can THINK or IMAGINE! He’s sovereign! He’s omnipotent and omnipresent! He loves you with an unfailing, unwavering love! So no matter what lies in your way, trust God and give it to Him! Just a little talk with Jesus WILL make it ALL right!

Surviving the Storm

Well the Blizzard of 2016 goes down in the history books, but guess what? You survived! And while I know you thought it would never end, this too shall pass. And just as this storm has passed, the storm you find yourself going through in life, will pass too! Don’t get discouraged; don’t give up; don’t get weary; don’t lose heart; don’t faint in the way; don’t let your faith fail you; and by all means don’t get overwhelmed. Remember that in the midst of your storm, Jesus is right there with you! Remember that He promised never, never, never to leave you nor forsake you. Remember that no matter how long the storm lasts, joy will come in the morning! In the midst of your storm, I encourage you to remember that He is your refuge and your strength! Remember that He is a very present help in the time of trouble! Remember that He promised that NO WEAPON formed against you shall prosper! Remember that while satan is ALWAYS on his job and that he surely desires to sift you as wheat, JESUS HIMSELF HAS PRAYED FOR YOU!  He is at this very moment sitting at the right hand of the Father making intercession for you! He is pleading your case before the Master Himself! Lastly remember that storms have purpose: they are times that God uses to strengthen and prepare you for what He has in store for you! So in the storms you face in life, draw near to God. Press you face to His and hear His voice! God bless you!

Follow the Leader

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2)

Beloved, children everywhere love to play games, and few kids games are more universal than Follow the Leader. And just as with any other game, when playing Follow the Leader, there are rules to follow. So the rules go like this: Assign one leader and several followers. Tell the leader to start doing something. He/she can walk, run, dance, sing, talk or do any activity or combination of activities he/she wants to do, in any order he/she wants.Instruct the rest of the players to follow the leader, doing whatever the leader does exactly the way he/she does it. Anyone who doesn’t follow exactly is out of the game. The game ends when only one person is left following the leader. That person then becomes the leader of the next game.

Being a Christian is much like playing Follow the Leader. Whatever the Leader (God) does, then we are to do likewise. Paul tells us that we are to follow God’s example and specifically His example of love. And as you think about what God’s example of love really means, remember this is what Paul told us about love in 1 Corinthians 13: Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.

Now the blessing is, that even though sometimes we miss the mark (and we will), we don’t get put out of the game! Just pick yourself back up, seek forgiveness, and do better. And God is always the Leader because only He can set the perfect example.

An Attitude of Gratitude

O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 107:1)

When someone is good to you, or does something good for you, the proper thing is to express your thanks, your gratitude. Consider the simple things we do for each other…giving someone a ride, helping someone out with a project, lending a listening ear or a strong shoulder. If someone did any of those things, you would naturally tell them thank you. Now consider this…everyday, without fail, God wakes you up, provides for your needs (and many of your wants), sustains you, makes ways out of no ways, keeps you in your right mind, and in many instances, flat out performs a miracle in your life! Everyday He is gracious and merciful to us! Lamentations the third chapter admonishes us: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. That right there is enough to tell the Lord THANK YOU! Today I challenge you…don’t wait until the end of the week to tell God THANK YOU! Thank Him right now for HE IS GOOD! Thank Him because His mercy endureth forever! God bless you!

Keep Calm and Sing a Song!

Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! (Psalm 98:1a)

Beloved, this is a new day; a day you’ve never seen before and one you shall never see again! And no matter what you’re going through, I challenge you to sing a new song today! Stop singing “woe is me”; no more “nobody cares; nobody loves me; nobody even notices me.” Stop singing the same old sappy song “if only I coulda, shoulda, woulda.” I dare you to sing a NEW song, for the Lord God Almighty has done MARVELOUS things! I dare you to sing “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” Sing to the tune of “I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” Start strumming to the beat of “if God be for me who in the whole wide world can be against me!” Hum to yourself “though he slay me, yet will I trust in HIM!” Sway to the beat of “My God is an awesome God; He reigns from Heaven above; with wisdom power and love; MY GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!” I am praying for you today my sister! I am praying for you today my brother! Make a joyful noise unto the Lord today! Trust and do not doubt that He has already worked it out! God bless you! Now SING!

Expect a Blessing

17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. (Luke 6:17-19)

Christian friends do you have a daily expectation to receive something from Jesus? Think about it: everyday you should be entering into His presence through prayer, study, meditation, etc. And when you enter His presence do you do so with a sense of expectancy? In Luke 6:17-19, we find Jesus getting ready to preach the great Sermon on the Mount and folk from all over Judea, Jerusalem and the surrounding areas sought after Him to both HEAR Him and to RECEIVE something from Him. They had heard of His power and thus came with an expectancy to receive something from Him. Scripture tells us that if we ask anything of Him NOTHING wavering (faith standing) that God would be faithful and hear us and respond. Our daily desire ought to be to both HEAR Him and RECEIVE something from Him. Those in Luke 6 sought a healing. You may be seeking a healing, a financial miracle, a new job, some peace, some joy, clarity, wisdom, a greater anointing…whatever it is, when you come into the presence of the Lord, EXPECT a blessing! Rejoice!

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Beloved, no matter what you’re going through; no matter what it looks like; no matter how bleak it looks; no matter how painful the present moment may be; no matter how high the mountain you have to climb today…today is the day the Lord has made…a gift from Him just for you. A gift of brand new mercies. Today is a day not promised or deserved, but God in His infinite wisdom decided to give you another chance! Another chance to get it right! Another chance to experience His grace, His love, and His power! And that is reason enough to rejoice! Think about it: your resting board last night could have been your cooling board today; you woke up this morning to find blood still running warm in your veins, your limbs still operating, a reasonable portion of god health and even if you don’t have everything you want, I promise you, you have everything you need! So rejoice! The storm of last night has passed over and the sun is shining brightly today! So get out there and enjoy this day that God has gifted to you and REJOICE! God bless you!
